About Vehicle Inspections

Service Inspection

Car inspections are a fickle subject because states create their own mandates for them. In general, state-required inspections fall into two broad categories, safety inspections and emissions inspections.

There are some exceptions, however. If you need a state-mandated inspection, make an appointment for Cadillac service at our convenient location.

When You’ll Need an Inspection in Illinois

When you contact our Cadillac dealership in Lincolnwood, IL, we’ll tell you that in Illinois, you must receive an emissions inspection every two years, starting from the year when the vehicle turns four years old.

If you’ve recently moved to Illinois, you need to first register the vehicle with the state and then you’ll receive for your test notice. After that, you can bring your vehicle in for an inspection.

If you fail your safety or emissions test, you’ll simply need to repair the vehicle and have it retested. Additionally, you may receive a rejection. A rejection is not the same as a failure. You can receive a rejection for reasons such as bringing your vehicle in too early or having a vehicle that is exempt. Vehicles that are exempt include:

  • Electric vehicles, like the 2023 Cadillac LYRIQ
  • Diesel powered vehicles
  • Vehicles for amateur or professional sport activities
  • Vehicles with a model year of 1967 or older

For the full list of exemptions, we recommend heading to the Illinois Department of Transportation website.

Why Multi-Point Inspections Are Important

Multi-point inspections are critical to the well-being of your automobile. It’s wise to bring your vehicle to Zeigler Cadillac of Lincolnwood for a multi-point inspection at least once per year, or more often if you drive an older car. Scheduling a multi-point inspection is always a good idea whenever you’re planning an extended road trip regardless of your vehicle’s age.

A multi-point inspection conducted in our Cadillac service center will identify small issues before they become big problems that are more important to fix. Once you have a multi-point inspection performed by our certified, factory-trained technicians, you’ll enjoy the peace of mind that comes with knowing your automobile is ready for whatever the road has in store.

Whether you want to shop for new Cadillac cars or your car needs a voluntary multi-point inspection or a state-mandated safety inspection, head over to our Cadillac dealership now!
